In collaboration with oos Architects.
We are very proud to present this project, in which we designed the concept, the interior and most of the furniture. Nest sammelstiftung is located in the top 3 layers of the building, of which the copperplated floor was added onto the existing building.
Nest is a green pensionfound so we chose a green overall theme: nature and growth. As each floor has different departments, with different needs, we gave each floor it's own subtheme divided in the layers earth, forest and sky. The different themes and department criteria result in a variety in layout and colour/material scheme per floor, following their position in the building.
Because of the dimensions of the building and the low ceilings we chose to keep an open structure in all layouts. No small rooms for offices, but a spacious approach on separating departments.
The moodboard for the 4th floor derived from the layers of earth we sought warm materials and colors, with a distinguished lenght-wise orientation to the room. The moodboard for the 5th floor has a fresh green color palette and see-through details like leaves on a tree. The moodboard for the 6th floor contains angular shapes which serve as an interpretation on clouds. This floor will have a panoramic view over the city of Zürich, so enough sky to go around.
These are the color and material boards for each floor. All materials are certified sustainable, eco-friendly and where possible renewable, following the client's philosophy. For the fourth floor: Warm natural colors, woods and stripes to illustrate the layering in earth layers. As this department houses the sales and customer service departments, we placed carpet on the floor for acoustic means. The fifth floor has many different greens, see-through effects and bamboo. The sixth floor has a lot of different white's, blue's and the angular shapes are even found in the materials itself.
The custom designed double sided workstations placed on all floors have many storage opportunities to save space in the wall storage systems. The tables and the overhead cupboards seem to "grow" in the room like stalactites and stalagmites.
The overhead cupboards give a sense of privacy and have sheets of coloured PET plastic as separations. The ceiling in between workstations have acoustic panelling.
By leaving a passage open along the window side, we emphasised the lenght of the room, taking the attention away from the low ceiling. Also it reflects the "terra" concept, layers in the length.
The window sills on this floor have cupboards throughout the whole length of the floor, alternated by little workspaces for reading, short talks or a break.
The 5th floor is where the main entrance is for clients and therefore has a reception desk, made out of bamboo. The bamboo flooring, wainscot and reception are a representation of the interior "growing" in the room, like it has come up on the walls.
Real seaweed, pressed in 20mm glass.
Custum designed short meeting table from the same bamboo, also "growing".
The top floor locates, next to workspaces, common facilities like the big meeting room and the staff room. The entire floor has a fabulous view over the city of Zurich and a terrace. The meeting table is custom designed.
The staff room with a professional kitchen and custom designed tables in two heights. The room is multipurpose: lunchbreaks, parties, conferences, etc.
The Kite Lamps are custom designed for Nest, to match the sky-theme of the floor.
